About Us

The Hospitality, Labor, and Management Library provides services to Cornell’s specialized business and labor schools, including the School of Hotel Administration, the ILR School, and the Johnson Graduate School of Management, with over 1800 undergraduates, 1300 graduate students, 140 resident faculty, and extensive distance education, executive education, and extension programs. The Hospitality, Labor, and Management Library is composed of three service locations: the Nestlé Library within Statler Hall's Marriott Student Learning Center, the Catherwood Library in Ives Hall, and the Management Library in Sage Hall.

Hotel, Labor, and Management Library Consolidation FAQ

How have these libraries changed and where are the books?Consolidated Books

Most of the books and periodicals from all three libraries — Catherwood, Management, and Nestlé - were consolidated into Catherwood’s first and third floor in Ives Hall. Some older and less used books and periodicals were transferred to Cornell University Library’s Annex facility. Librarians remain in Ives, Sage, and Statler to help with your research and instruction needs!

Why the changes?

As the University faced the challenges of the recent economic down-turn, it examined a host of campus functions including library services. Cornell’s libraries as a whole have reduced expenditures in areas such as administration and circulation to focus available resources on the things most important to students and faculty: excellent digital and print collections and on-site, specialized research help.

Who decided?

A committee of librarians, faculty, and students from each School analyzed data and conducted surveys and focus groups, and then made recommendations to the deans of the three Schools and the University Librarian. The deans and UL laid out a course of action based on those recommendations; their plan was endorsed by the Provost and implemented over the last two years.

How do I get books and articles now at the Annex?

Books transferred to the Annex can be requested through the online catalog and are usually available within 24 hours. The Annex will also scan and deliver articles from periodicals via email.

Where can I find Course Reserves in print?

ILR course reserves are in Catherwood Library, Hotel course reserves are available at the Marriott Student Learning Center, and Johnson course reserves are available in the Management Library. To meet student demand, we are aggressively shifting toward e-reserves.

Has online access changed?

Yes, we have even more online access to critical resources through enhanced subscriptions and book digitization. Dedicated terminals for specialty resources such as Bloomberg continue to be available in all three libraries.

What happened to the loaner laptops in Nestlé Library?

This program has been discontinued. Laptops can checked out from Olin, Uris, and Mann Libraries.

Where can I pick up and return library items?

Regular circulation items can be picked up and returned to the circulation desks in Catherwood or Management Libraries. Reserve items should be returned to the desk from which they were checked out.

Where can I get research help?

Subject specialist librarians are available at all three libraries to assist with consultations, research, and instruction.

Where can I find study space?

Many study areas are available in all three Schools:

  • Hotel is excited to welcome students to the new Marriot Student Learning Center.
  • ILR’s study space has not changed and includes silent space on the first floor (down the stairs from the reference desk).
  • The Management Library offers study space on the 1st and 2nd floors. The Marin Reading Room (Johnson School students only) is accessible from the hallway on the 2nd & 3rd floors.
